GOING UP! LOFT CONVERSIONS

Following the news today of George Osborne’s intent to allow London residents to be free to build extra storeys on to their properties without the requirement for local council planning approval, I thought I would take a look at some great examples of loft conversions. Find more information on the proposals on The Guardians article here.

In this stunning space in Prague, a stainless steel net replaces a bannister around the staircase and first floor.  The project was designed by Lenka Křemenová & David Maštálka / A1 Architects

I love surprises in interior design. This clever loft conversion by Martin Architects conceals a secret room to enable the space to be truly multifunctional. A modern twist on the moving bookshelf, the third room in the space is concealed behind a moving wall with integrated bookshelf. To enter, the clients push one side of the wall and it slides back on runners which are set into the floor and ceiling.

I’m currently working on some ideas for a clients proposed space – here is my initial concept board of inspiration. A loft conversion flooded with light with the use of glass, a huge amount of white paint and clever concealed lighting. Let me know what you think in the comment box below – would you be interested in going up? I’d love to hear from you!
