Texture really is so important in interior design and I can’t think of a more beautiful way to add some to a room than with a bespoke piece by the supremely talented, Helen Amy Murray.
Helen creates beautiful, bespoke works of art for the luxury interior design industry. Her passion for surface relief began when she visited India for a three-month research trip. She became fascinated with the carvings in wood and marble and was inspired to translate the effect into textiles.
“I’m excited about fabric manipulation and using innovative techniques, beautiful, luxury materials and design, to create couture for the high-end interior and arts markets.”
The process that Helen uses involves hand carving sculptural relief within leather and textiles which are then used in bespoke furniture and wall panels. One of my favourite pieces of Helens was for the luxury bed manufacturer, Savoir, shown below. As well as this, I am also a huge fan of the wall panel for a private wine cellar, also shown below. The striking deep colour combined with the perfectly positioned downlight show the design off beautifully.
As well as hand carving into leather and fabric, Helen also launched a collection with The Rug Company, with her designs carved into tightly packed hand knotted rugs. I adore the ‘Star’ rug shown bottom left – it is so striking when seen up close.
